When do I need a license?
- You do not need a license to open carry a handgun in Jasper County, provided you are in compliance with all other local, state and federal laws.
- You do not need a license to open carry a rifle in Jasper County, provided you are in compliance with all other local, state and federal laws.
- You do not need a license to open carry a shotgun in Jasper County, provided you are in compliance with all other local, state and federal laws.
- Local ordinances may be farther restrictive of Open Carry provisions.
- City of Port Dominion ((Jaguar, Port Dominion, Dominion, Dominion Bay, Falling Stars)) – No current restrictions
- City of Fox Hollow ((Moonlight Ridge, Foxwood, Magnolia, Hickory Creek, Orchard Harvest, Lake Oleryben, Forgotten Sea, Beltane Fire)) – No current restrictions
- City of Port Dominion ((Jaguar, Port Dominion, Dominion, Dominion Bay, Falling Stars)) – No current restrictions
- You do need a license to conceal carry (Carry out of public view) a loaded firearm in Jasper County, be it on your person or in your vehicle.
- You do not need a license to conceal carry (Carry out of public view) a unloaded firearm in Jasper County, such as a unloaded rifle in your trunk.
Can I carry a firearm into businesses?
You may carry a firearm into businesses provided you are in compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.
You may not carry a firearm into the following areas:
- An educational institution, such as a school.
- A law enforcement or correctional institution.
- Courthouses and city/state buildings.
- Any place where carrying a firearm is prohibited under federal law, such as federal buildings.
- A bar or place serving alcohol, without the permission of the property owner
- Any private property with a publicly posted and visible notice prohibiting the carrying of firearms on the premises.
Is my out of state license valid?
Jasper County only recognizes out of state firearms permits from places that:
a) are within the United States
b) Recognize Jasper County permits within their own jurisdiction.
c) list permits on the APEX TownControl database
At the moment, no jurisdictions ((within SL)) meet this definition.
What is the application process?
Interested parties in a concealed carry permit will fill out the application, then undergo the following process:
a) Background check
b) Self-review of state and local firearms laws and policies
c) Test to verify competency and knowledge in state, local, and federal firearms laws

Firearms Application Information
Thank you in your interest in applying for a Concealed Carry Permit with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Please review the following requirements:
- Applicants must be 21 years of age or older
- Applicants must be a U.S Citizen, by birth or naturalization, or a permanent resident.
- Applicants must either live in Jasper County OR have a compelling business reason (such as security guards or bail bondsman) that would compel them to concealed carry within Jasper County despite not living in county.
- Applicants must not have been convicted of any felonious offenses, or extra violent misdemeanors
- Applicants must not have any current criminal investigations against them.
- Applicants must not have a mental or physical deficit that could adversely affect handling a concealed firearm.
- Applicants must be in possession of a current valid North Carolina Driver’s License or Photo ID Card
